Resolved Question: Should i let her go despite our daughter?
My girlfriend Karen told me she is leaving me and she will be moving out of my apartment Friday. We are both 20 and we have been together for 3 years. She got pregnant at 17 and had our beautiful daughter Hannah. She told me i ruined her life by getting her pregnant so young. She told blames me for her life being horrible and for getting laid off recently. She calls me an asshole and tells me she used to adore me but now she hates me. She said i was immature for not using a condom and assuming she was on birth control. Hannah lives with with her mom's parents because she would not let our daughter grow up in an apartment. I've been saving up money to buy a home and took on two jobs just to earn more money for a future home. She told me she doesn't give a shit anymore and she can't even stand to look at me. We haven't had sex in a while. Sex is usually the one constant in our relationship. We have argued a lot before it has not be an easy ride like we expected after we found out she was pregnant but we always worked our problems out. I adore her and don't want her to break up with me or leave. Plus i worried she will take Hannah with her who means the world to me. Should i let her go or try to resolve our issues?

Open Question: So I lent a known drug dealer $400. Can I sue him for repayment?
So I only gave him the $400 because he said he would repay my original money plus an extra $500. It was a don't ask don't tell situation, but I am fairly certain that he was going to use the money for illegal activities. Can I sue him for my original $400 since that was clean money that I earned working a regular job? Nothing was in writing, but I have 2 witnesses that saw me hand him the money and also have the bank statement of the withdrawal.... And I don't need moral advice or anyone to tell me the obvious that I shouldn't lend a low life drug dealer money. I know this obviously! And one more thing... please only respond if you have legal know how. I am not asking for an opinion. I am asking those who know the law one way or another!

Open Question: Shouldn't fees for financial planner's services be based on work actually completed, prorated from the start?
we just started with a new planner who is connected to LPL. I know the 1.8% per annum fee is a bit high but have high expectations of his talent. However, The first quarter's fee showed up on my $100000 account on 3/8/2010 for $465. when I called him for an explanation, he said the first fee is confusing because it's figured on the current month (3days) + the next 3 months. "the next quarter statement will be adjusted to account for the "overage" in the first quarter, and the computations "will" be based on the actual balances over the quarter, and he'd send me a printout of the current computations. (look below) My other adviser's billing was prorated from the start, which is what I expected from this advisor. Has anyone else experienced this nice of "money grab" even if it gets cleared up in the long run? "Your specific account: $100,000 x 1.80% x 93/360 = $465.00 *3 days in February (26, 27 & 28) + upcoming 3 months = 93 days" And who sets this procedure, LPL Financial or the independant advisor? My doubts are demonstrating a lack of trust, and it scares me to think I'm at this point after just handing over $100,000 difficult earned cash.

Open Question: Money earned by a translator?
Hy! I am in the second year at the university and after I will graduate I like o become a translator. I know English, French, Romanian, a little Spanish and a little German. What do you now about how a translator is paid? I ask because today, for example, I heard one colleague who is already translating for a publishing home and she earns very little in comparison with how much time she works. I think that I made a bad choice. But I like this. And I also want to ask, are the translators wanted and searched to be hired? Or it is not a great need for this?

Resolved Question: What careers can martial arts lead too?
I'm finishing my A2 levels soon which I took five of and am predicted A's. I was spotted a year ago and could go into a career which is already lined up for me where I would earn a vast sum of money with good prospects. I'm not sure if this is what I really want though, I would be working at least 14 hour days and would travel around the world a lot of the time with no set home. I have been thinking I could take a career in martial arts and tutor, but then I think if I would regret this job and lifestyle.. I already study martial arts, Fujian White Crane Kung Fu, but what other careers can this guide into? Parts of me wants to pursue this career and others martial arts.. I have also wanted to tutor the violin and piano but again, am not sure. I suppose this is a careers advice question, I will talk to someone after this to work out what I want to do, but I want to look what the Martial Arts community think, as my question is more opposed towards martial arts careers than general advice. The predictable answers still seem to amuse me :) I may take this career that's planned for me for five years, and if I like it I'll stick to it. If not, I will still have enough money from it to buy a home in the UK and set up my possess business. I'd have to seek further training though, I'm not passing down an art inaccurately. Bad Ass, firstly nice name :) I've been taking lessons for the past 13 years and have covered almost everything. Your right, I haven't taken any courses but if I do pursue a career in this I will take a four year training course with my club where I'll train eight hours a day in China.

Open Question: Is it possible to open an American bank account from here in Australia?
I'm planning to travel to the US for a holiday towards end of the year. It would be handy to be able to open an American bank account now, transfer Australian dollars while the exchange rate is favourable and then have that money sitting in an American account waiting for me when I receive there! Maybe even earning some interest... ? Is this possible or too good to be true?

Open Question: Future in laws want me to compensate them for missed tax benefits - is this fair?
So. Here is the situation. My fiance and I have been together for 3 years. He is a student finishing his masters, I am a tiny business owner. For 2009 he worked for me and on paper his income was very very low, however, his standard of living, (that I gave him money for) rent, airfare, books tuition for one half of the year - indicates that he had a significantly higher income for 2009. I plan on deferring some of my income to him in order to lower my taxable income (perfectly legal, acceptable and my accountants would insist on it). Remember, he benefited from my income and indirectly it was his income as well - it just has not been reported yet. His parents, who have claimed him as a dependent during his undergrad years for their income tax purposes also paid 1/2 year of tuition for him in 2009. So they paid for one half year, and I paid for one half year. Because in my eyes, my fiance has reaped the benefits of our lifestyle I feel he should in fact shoulder some of the tax liability (I would be paying any applicable taxes) and do his best to limit our taxable income - which he agrees. NOW, because of this, his dad has prepared a spreadsheet for us, showing us that if we do this they will lose approx. $1000 off of their refund. Because my fiance has earned more than normal, his parents are not able to use his education tax credits to lower their taxable income! I should mention that his siblings who were also in his situation (in school, earning an income) were not expected to compensate their parents for their lost benefits. My future in-law wants me to pay him $1000! My side: 1. I also paid half of 2009, If he claimed my fiance - I would lose out on my credit, and by the way would not dream of asking for it. 2. In my eyes, fiance benefited from my income and should also take responsibility 3. Feel that because the other siblings were not asked to compensate parents - it is unfair that I am being asked to. 4. Feel bad that they are missing out on their 'credit' but that is just the way life is sometimes, that it is not my fault that they counted their chickens before they hatched. 5. Feel like I am being taken advantage of just because I can 'afford' to pay this to them (whereas their other kids were students making too much to use the credits, but not significant incomes). 6. I feel that they should look to their son to compensate them and not me (to which they then conceded and withdrew their request) Their side: 1. They paid for sons education and want to reap the benefits from that 2. They feel that I am reaping OOODLES of rewards (not really, I feel that they are looking to me when they need to focus on their son as he benefited too). 3. They feel that because there will be extra tax credits left over from this year, that I will receive those ones in the future. 4. They feel like they are the only ones who are losing out in this situation. What are your thoughts? I feel taken advantage of AND that this has caused a rift as I basically said no way! I know my parents would never ask me to do the same so this feels very odd. I know it is only $1000 - but it just feels wrong based on the facts!! If in the same situation what would YOU do? They are not broke, and normally do not sweat the tiny stuff. This is why it is so puzzling to me... When I said I would not be paying and to look to my fiance for the solution - he said that it was fine, that since I didn't feel he 'deserved' his tax credit that it wasn't worth it to him to pursue it. Not that I don't feel he doesn't deserve it, I just don't think I should have to pay. Ordinarily, they are very very nice people and have been very good to me. I guess that is why I am caught off-guard by this and am left feeling bad for 'stealing' his stupid tax credit. If I had to pay it, it would bother me for a long long time - but on the other hand... this outcome is not the best either!! I just wish he never had asked!! Thanks everyone for your feedback, I just needed another perspective aside from my possess. :-)

I need more and I've told him that- but he feels like I'm trying to trick him or something- like a gold digger.” Now she fails to mention that I also take care of the home and kids (I think I do it better than her – seriously); I pay every the bills (mortgage, utilities, food, insurance, everything) for a family of 5 (wife and three daughters), I’ve been trying to receive out of the debt hole for the last 2 years, cant afford right now to buy clothes for myself, and try to squeeze in a haircut once in a while. Although I don’t have the money right now I tell her “as soon as my finances are straight things will receive better”. I try to take her out once in a while to keep the peace. For the first time in 2 years I have put in my budget a trip for the family to Cancun for June this year. Its difficult doing this by myself. I even told her that any money she earns on her part time job is for her possess personal use. One other note – we’ve been together 5 years and she claims that she has not been able to find a normal job. I’ve been holding her down, what am I doing wrong?!
